Hurricane IKE

Currently Listening to: VH1 TOP 100 songs of the 90s.

We live in Pearland, about 15 miles SW of Houston. We boarded up the windows, which was a new experience for me. they were not straight but the windows were covered. angie had gottten plenty of food and supplies. i had gas and a generator from work. thursday at noon PISD decided to close Pearland schools for Friday. we decided at work to close at 12 on Thursday after securing everything at work.

well ike came and went. it really hit us around midnight friday. we lost power right about that time. the 3 of us slept in the closet that night. we woke up and found the following damage. Here are a couple of pics.

We finally needed to get out of the house and check out the damage. my parents who live 1.5 miles from us had leakining in the roofs of the garage and house. my dad and i covered them up with 3 tarps. they had some down trees and shingles flown off the roof. i checked out my boss' house, his mom's, and some others. lots of trees and wood fences were down everywhere.

saturday night was the worst. no breeze, and 100% humidty. just nasty weather to try and sleep in. i ran the generator a couple times a day to conserve gas. i kept waking up every hour checking on Caed, who was the biggest trooper of us all. he did a great job.

our friends Melissa and Talon got power back yesterday morning. so we grilled some chicked and pork chops and had dinner over there. it was nice. then the cold front came in last night and it got really cold, but felt great for sleeping.

this mornig i went to work (2.5 miles from home) and we decided to work out of town since we did not have power. 1/2 the crew is headed to baton rouge, the other 1/2 to waco and clifton. hopefully when we come back there will be power. i would say 90% of pearland is without power. who knows how long it will take. PISD is closed through Wednesday as of right now, which that decision came yesterday a about 3pm.

we are on the way to Ovilla. i am leavng from there in the morning to meet the crew in Waco.

lots of damages to business' on 45N in houston. saw a lines of truckers with generators heading to Houston on 45S along with A TON of AT&T trucks.

finally found some food in huntsville @ Mcdonalds. they were very nice and helpful to all.

All in all we survived. We were prepared. WE have GREAT FRIENDS and FAMILY and all helped out each other and will continue to do so until all the messed is cleaned up. Thanks to each and everyone who has helped and prayed for us and who will continue to.
